FDNY Trucks Collide; At Least 12 Firefighters Injured

At least 12 New York City firefighters were hurt Saturday -- four of them seriously -- after two fire trucks collided in the East New York section of the borough.

It happened just before 10 a.m. on Ashford Street between New Lots and Hegeman avenues.

Authorities say trucks from Engine Company No. 236 and Ladder Company No. 107 were racing to a call, when one of the rigs flipped on its side, trapping two firefighters.

One of them remained trapped for more than two hours. Another was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center with a a leg injury; he's listed in serious condition. Most of the firefighters weren't badly hurt. They were taken to Kings County Hospital Center in Flatbush and Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens to be checked out.
