New Jersey authorities arrested a person in connection with the murder of a former high school star athlete.

Nicole Ayers, 22, was found dead of multiple stab wounds on a soccer field located in Southampton Township on Monday. Public work employees found her body around 10:30 a.m. after going to a wooded area to retrieve top soil.

The gruesome discovery was made in a recreation area where Buddtown Road and Route 2006 connect in Southhampton Township.

Stephen Headley, 28, of Florence, N.J. was arrested Tuesday and booked on murder charges.

Investigators said the murder may have occurred early Monday morning -- however, a motive has not yet been determined.

Ayers graduated from Deptford High School and was later the softball rookie of the year at Fordham University in New York.

Ayers left Fordham University after the 2008 spring semester and was registered to attend classes full times this Fall at Rutgers-Camden, according to officials,
