Jersey City police say an officer who was critically wounded in a gun battle last week has taken a turn for the worse.

Department spokesman Lt. Edgar Martinez says Officer Marc DiNardo is in extremely critical condition.

The 37-year-old was shot in the face with a shotgun blast as he and other officers tried to storm an apartment on July 16th. Roberry suspect Hassan Shakur and his wife had holed up inside after an earlier exchange of gunfire on the street.

Eight officers were injured, including five wounded by gunfire.

Shakur and his wife were killed.

Officer Michael Camacho, who had been in critical condition since he was shot in the neck, was upgraded to serious but guarded condition Sunday.
