In a freak accident on a New Jersey parkway, a runaway tire bounced up and through the windshield of a man’s car, killing him but leaving his daughter in the passenger seat unhurt.

Russell Seratelli, 47, was driving South on the Garden State Parkway with his daughter, Danielle Seratelli, 25,  when a late model Honda traveling North reportedly lost its left rear wheel around 5:20 p.m. Monday.

The tire rolled out of the northbound lane near Exit 138, hopped the median, and slammed into the windshield of Seratelli’s oncoming Hyundai Sonata, according to police.

Seratelli was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while his daughter suffered no injuries, police said.

Rush hour traffic was backed up for five miles while police and paramedics worked at the scene.
