New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn along with other council members stood at the entrance of the Kingsbridge Road subway station in the Fordham section of The Bronx handing out and collecting petitions protesting the MTA proposed service cuts.

Speaker Quinn, Transportation Chair James Vacca and Council Member Fernando Cabrera urged riders to continue to oppose the MTA cuts that will effect city subways and buses.

The MTA is staring at hundreds of millions of dollars in budget shortfall. Among the many proposals to save money in that budget is the plan to eliminate free MetroCards for students.

PIX News will continue to report on MTA budget cuts and Project SOS-Support Our Students campaign.
