NYPD Cop Shot In Subway Station Leaves Hospital

An NYPD officer who was shot during a hail of bullets in a Hamilton Heights subway station Tuesday, has been released from the hospital.

Det. Kevin Herlihy was greeted with cheers and applause from fellow officers as he left New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia Hospital, less than 24 hours after he dodged death during a gun fight with a shooting suspect.

According to authorities, Herlihy pursued suspect Michael McBride into the 145th St. and St. Nicholas Ave. subway station. Herlihy and three fellow undercover detectives had been tracking 52 year old McBride who was wanted in connection with Mondays shooting of his girlfriends daughter.

Kelly said at one point McBride realized he was being followed and ran into the subway where he turned and fired 3, possibly 5 shots at the detective.

Herlihy suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, while McBride was shot dead in the station.
