A graffiti mural calling the New York City Police Department "murderers" was painted over and subsequently censored by police officers, just days after it was completed.

According to DNAinfo, the mural which was painted on the side of New Edition Cleaners on Broadway in the Inwood section late last week, was covered up with black paint by two plain-clothed NYPD police officers Tuesday afternoon.

The artist, Alan Ket, was reportedly given permission by the store owner to paint the mural which depicts several tombstones with epitaph names that included the NYPD, the Environmental Protection Agency, Shell Oil and Bank of America among others with the words "We know the real murderers" scrolled over them.

"I was inspired by the unarmed Ramarley Graham shooting in Bronx and the trend in police shootings," Ket told DNAinfo.

Officials told DNAinfo, complaints from neighbors about the "violent" message prompted them to cover up the mural.
