Huge Pothole Opens In Playground

Just between a city park called Dr. John's Playground and P.S. 277 in Gerritsen Beach there is a massive hole in the ground, steps away from where children play.

According to concerned parents it's a crater-like menace to their children and it has been there for weeks. "If you do something wrong, you get a ticket from the city right away. Here the city is wrong and our kids could get hurt, and they are doing nothing about it," said Peter Whitley, Gerritsen Beach father of two.

PIX11 News went out there to check it out and told many parents for the first time about the problem.

"As a grandma, those barricades are not enough to keep my curious grandson out, that's for sure," said Janet Roach, a Gerritsen Beach grandmother of two.

The Parks Department tells PIX11 News that they tried fixing it before and it just got bigger. A Parks Department spokesperson promises crews will be out there Tuesday to fix it.
