Yankees catcher Jorge Posada was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right foot and the team recalled catcher Chad Moeller from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his place.
Posada has a hair-line fracture and is expected to miss up to four weeks with the injury.
Moeller joins the team as a backup to Francisco Cervelli. The 35 year-old Moeller has 10 years major league experience.
In another move, the Yankees optioned reliever Mark Melancon to Triple-A and recalled outfielder Kevin Russo.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
