A husband and wife team who sell tacos and quesadillas has been named New York City's best street vendors.

Fernando and Yolanda Martinez took first place in this year's Vendy Awards Saturday at the Queens Museum of Modern Art in Corona. The annual awards ceremony celebrates the city's best street food.

The Martinezes make Mexican food out of their cart at the Red Hook Ballfield in Brooklyn. Fernando Martinez said he was happy to know that New Yorkers love his tacos.

Nearly 700 hungry people cheered on their favorite sidewalk chefs, and got to sample some of the city's best. For the second straight year, Meru Sikder's Biryani Cart took home the People's Taste Award. An Austrian food cart called "Schnitzel and Things" was crowned rookie of the year. The Best Dessert Award went to "Wafels & Dinges."

Money raised from the event support the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center, which protects the rights of thousands of street vendors.
