Middletown's Ben Olsen Named DC United Head Coach

Middletown High School grad Ben Olsen is given the DC United head coaching position on a permanent basis. When Olsen retired, the team's President and CEO said that Olsen had been the heart and soul of the team. D.C. United is sticking with Ben Olsen as its coach.

The Major League Soccer club announced Monday that Olsen isgetting the job on a permanent basis after being made the interimhead coach for the final 2½ months of last season, the worst inD.C. United's history.

Olsen was an assistant coach before getting promoted in August,when D.C. United fired Curt Onalfo.

The team went 3-8-1 under Olsen to finish with a 6-20-4 record,the worst in MLS.

Long a fan favorite and a member of the U.S. national team,Olsen helped United win two MLS Cups as a player. He joined thecoaching staff after retiring as a player following the 2009season.
