Half a Billion Eggs Recalled, Pennsylvania in the Clear

Egg Recall (2010)

A second egg recall Friday has increased the recall to half a billion eggs. Pennsylvania is still in the clear.

Lydia Johnson with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Food Safety says while it is the most massive recall in recent history, Pennsylvanians can still confidently purchase eggs in local stores. She says to look for the PA Preferred logo on shelves or cartons.

At Stauffers of Kissel Hill in Lancaster County, they get all their eggs locally from Sauders. Shoppers like Kim Rineer are relieved to know eggs produced and sold in Pennsylvania are OK. "We like to eat eggs and I want to bake this weekend so I'm glad I'm able to buy them."

Americans consume 220 million eggs a day. The second recall also stems from a factory in Iowa.
