An Amish teenager is struck by a Norfork Southern freight train in Lancaster County. It happened at around 5:30 Tuesday evening at a private grade crossing along the 2000 block of Thoroughbred Lane in East Lampeter Township. The 16 year old male reportedly had walked across the grade carrying a younger sibling. For unknown reasons, he put his sibling down and returned to the tracks where he was struck by the train.
The unidentified youth reportedly suffered extensive injuries including a broken leg and broken arm. He was taken to Lancaster General Hospital. A Norfolk Southern spokesman says the freight train had two locomotives. The speed for trains travelling through the crossing is rated at 30 miles per hourCopyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
