State Police Charge Suspect in Beating Death of Dauphin County Man with Criminal Homicide

Pennsylvania State Police say the suspect in the brutal beating on June 29th of a Millersburg Borough man now faces a Homicide charge.  Emergency crews responding to a call at a home in the 400 block of South Market street found the victim, 50 year old Richard Blomgren, unconscious but still alive after being assaulted.

On Friday, July 13th, Blomgren was pronounced deceased at Hershey Medical Center due to his injuries. State Police filed a murder charge against 43 year old Michael Smeltz, also of Millersburg.  Investigators say that Smeltz broke into Blomgren's home and assaulted him in the belief that Blomgren was in a relationship with an ex-girlfriend of Smeltz's.

Charges against Smeltz include Criminal Homicide, Aggravated Assault, and Burglary.
