Fireworks and Baseball

Fireworks on the 4th of July.

They’re as American as baseball & apple pie.

And one of my favorite things about watching baseball, is the ever-present possibility of explosives.

Not the ones that fill the night sky after a win.  The kind that happen on the field.

You hit us.  We hit you.  Everybody hits everybody.  After all, that’s kinda how this nation was founded right?

Sometimes, the outbursts are directed at the umpires.

Other's the poor unsuspecting Gatorade coolers that take the brunt.

Even up in Canada this weekend, they're in the mood.

It's been a while since we've had a good wardrobe malfunction in sports, anyways.

Former Cubs skipper Lou Piniella had a knack for this sort of stuff.

Mike Quade hasn't quite figured it out, but he's trying.

But for my money, NO ONE tops Ozzie Guillen, when it comes to on and off-the-field explosives.

After all, when I guy learns his English on the ball never know what you’re gonna get:

Joking with Cubs fans one minute.  Kicking their catcher's equipment the next.   The best fireworks at US Cellular field don't come when Paul Konerko hits a HR.  They come when Ozzie gets fed up!

Baseball & fireworks...America's pastime.

Happy 4th of July.
