South Florida Memorial Day Events
Memorial Day was founded to honor military personnel who died in the Civil War. The holiday now serves as a time to honor American service members who have died in war. Here is a round-up of events planned to celebrate the holiday:
Memorial Day Parade and Service Organized by the Town of Davie and Scoutmasters Camporee Committee South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America. Show support for the soldiers and recognize the sacrifice they have made
Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony Hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Jose Marti Post # 10212, American Legion Felix Sosa-Camejo Post # 346, Vietnam Veterans of America Candido Molinet Chapter 620 and Cuban American Veterans Association Miami Headquarters. Father Jose Luis Fernandez, a retired military chaplain, presides the ceremony. Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony The City of Miami Beach, the American Legion Miami Beach Post 85 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Miami Beach Post 3559 honor the veterans. Parade and Ceremony 11 a.m. Monday parade begins at corner of Southeast 23rd Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard and culminates in service at Pompano Beach Cemetery, 400 SE 23rd Ave. Activities include prayer service, rifle salute and youth groups. Call 954-873-6462.

PALM BEACH COUNTY
Memorial Day Service: A Day to Remember Forgotten Soldiers Outreach and Palm Beach Memorial Park will have the fourth annual ceremony honoring veterans past and present from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Palm Beach Memorial Park, 3691 Seacrest Blvd. Guest speakers, wreath-laying ceremony, color guard presentation and Boy Scout Troop from Wellington. Royal Palm Beach Memorial Day Observance The Honor Guard from American Legion Post 367, Jewish War Veterans Post 684, Star Spangled Banner by Jessica Stiles, Pledge of Allegiance by Tyler Retzler and the RPB Early Childhood Activity Program participants, Boy Scout Troop 111, Brownie Troop 515, and local dignitaries will lead you in a memorable morning ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday at Veterans Park, 1036 Royal Palm Beach Blvd., Royal Palm Beach. Wellington Memorial Day Ceremony Events kick off with a parade at 8:45 a.m. at the Wellington Community Center, 12165 W. Forest Hill Blvd. and travels south down to Veterans Memorial at the corner of South Shore and Forest Hill boulevards. Honor guard and pipe and drums will perform. Call 561-791-4733.
