1) Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts

One of the busiest venues in the state, the Jorgensen Center has presented every conceivable performer since 1955. Running the musical chairs from Jerry Lee Lewis, Chubby Checker and Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Balkan Beat Box, Arc Attack and the Pink Floyd Experience, they’ve also presented dance experiences by the cutting-edge Trey McIntyre Project and more traditional Moscow Festival Ballet, as well as being one of the top cabaret venues in the Northeast. Rod Rock, longtime Jorgensen director, attributes the success to “The programs are wide-ranging, we have great community support and a solid patron base that extends from Canada to the Carolinas.” Rock’s favorite recent gig was by YouTube superstar Jake Shimabukuro. “He’s the Jimi Hendrix of ukulele and he can play anything,” says Rock. “He packed the place.”
