1) Coromandel Cuisine of India

It's Coromandel's first win for New Haven County, but the owner's Darien and Stamford restaurants of the same name have won this category in Fairfield County. There are also locations in Newtown, Southport, SoNo and New Rochelle, NY. Owner Mathew Jacob and Chef Lasath Hikkaduwage specialize in serving dishes unlike those you'll find on most standardized Indian menus, such as Kerala Fish Curry and Kodi Vepudu - a rare Andhra Pradash dish with a peanut, onion and coconut-based sauce. They please their customers not only with these unusual offerings but by employing a well-educated staff that can explain the dishes to the uninitiated. Finish your meal with a traditional gulab jamon, a rose, mango, pistachio or saffron kulfi or a ginger caramel flan. For a taste of many of these dishes, stop in for the weekday lunch buffet or weekend brunch.
