It's about more than Adderall: Obama issues order to remedy drug shortages

Seems the Adderall isn’t the only drug where shortages are are causing serious problems and the mess has gotten so bad that President Obama issued an executive order to try and correct things.

The president called the drug shortages “a slow-rolling problem" and ordered changes in reporting of possible shortages, quicker reviews of drug production changes and more scrutiny by the U.S. Justice Department over price gouging.

Adderall is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (and is an illegal favorite among some college students looking to increase their focus), and there are definite supply problems here in Connecticut.

Other drug shortages can be life-threatening, especially when patients can’t get cancer drugs, anesthetics and emergency treatment drugs.

There is also legislation pending in Congress to deal with these drug shortages, but Obama said he wasn’t willing to wait for congressional action.
