Lawrence Central opened up a 21-3 halftime lead over Center Grove in the 5A semi-state game and never looked back. The Bears beat the Trojans 28-15 to advance to the school's second ever IHSAA State Championship game.
"We knew it wasn't over. This team was the best team we played all year and they fought till the last second. We knew going into halftime we would have to maintain and even go further with it," said senior quarterback Drake Christen.
"I think we shocked them a little bit and it took them awhile to recover. And after they recovered they started to do their thing. It was good to get off to to a good start," said Lawrence Central head coach Jayson West.
Lawrence Central was led by Christen's two touchdown passes and a pair of scores by running back Alex Rodriguez. The victory also keeps the Bears in the small and elite group of unbeatens. Lawrence Central sitting at a perfect 14-0 on the season.
"We're making history we're accomplishing our dreams. We worked all off season to get this," said Rodriguez.
The Bears will play Snider in the 5A State Championship game next weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium.
