A Carmel police officer went to the hospital after police say a drunk driver hit him.

Officer Cody Barlow was directing traffic Wednesday afternoon at 116th Street and Hoover Road for the PGA BMW Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club. Barlow stepped into the road and tried to stop traffic heading west so other traffic could get through.

A red Saturn Vue failed to stop and hit Barlow on the left side. The officer hit the hood, windshield and side view mirror.

Police said Barlow was treated and released at St. Vincent on 86th Street.

Police arrested the driver of the Saturn, Keith Foster, 57, Zionsville. Charges against him include operating a vehicle while intoxicated and criminal recklessness with a vehicle.
