Chickenpox outbreak confirmed at Western School Corp.

The Indiana Department of Health has confirmed a chickenpox outbreak at Western School Corp. in Russiaville.

Officials say students, faculty, and staff with no history of chickenpox and who haven't received two doses of the chickenpox vaccine will not be allowed in Western schools.

Howard County Health Department nursing coordinator, Kathy Oldaker says there are five confirmed cases at Western School Corp.  Oldaker adds that all the kids with confirmed cases had the first vaccination.  She says due to the outbreak, they're giving all students not in the sixth grade or above the second vaccination dose.

There will also be a vaccination clinic in the Western Primary School gym starting at nine Monday morning.  There will be no fee for the vaccination.

Officials say any student that has not been vaccinated will not be allowed to return to school until April 13.
