INDIANAPOLIS - The edge of Lucas Oil Stadium's upper deck will now feature an "Edge"
On Tuesday afternoon the Indianapolis Colts announced that former running back Edgerrin James will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor during the 2012 season.
The franchise's All-Time leading rusher will be honored during the Colts' September 23rd game against the Jaguars.
“It is a tremendous honor," said James in a statement released through the team. "It’s one of those things that you set out to do and hope to have a career where you can leave a lasting imprint. For me, it’s super important because a lot of my young kids didn’t get a chance to see me play.
"Now, at least they’ll know their daddy could play a little bit.”
Drafted with the fourth pick of the 1999 NFL Draft, James was the most prolific rusher in the history of the Colts franchise. He holds records for the most rushing yards gained (9,226), rushing touchdowns (64) and 1,000 yard rushing seasons (5).
Four times James was selected to the NFL's Pro Bowl along with NFL All-Pro selections in 1999, 2000, and 2004.
“Edgerrin is one of the most significant players in our history, and he embodies the talent and competitive nature we seek in every player," said Colts owner Jim Irsay in a statement released through the team. "Edgerrin ran his way into the record books and into the hearts of all Colts fans.
"He now is taking a rightful place among others enshrined in our Ring, and he represents all that is right with the Horseshoe.”Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
