Former IMPD Assistant Chief Darryl Pierce is suing Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, Public Safety Director Dr. Frank Straub and Police Chief Paul Ciesielski. Pierce was demoted after the fallout from the investigation into the Officer David Bisard fatal crash in August.

Pierce was demoted from assistant chief to lieutenant for what IMPD Chief Ciesielski called a failure to recognize the gravity at the crash site and failure to proceed accordingly.

In the lawsuit, Pierce outlines how many times he spoke with Chief Ciesielski from the accident scene, detailing what was happening. Pierce claims he was then called away for a meeting with the chief that he was told was mandatory.

Pierce is seeking compensation for loss of his job and personal and professional damage to his reputation.
