A popular Labor Day fireworks show in Indianapolis is being canceled because of the recession.

Emmis Communications says that it had to cancel the annual Sky Concert because of a lack of funding. The Indianapolis-based media company says it can't afford the full cost itself and has been unable to find enough financial partners to pay for the September display.

Emmis didn't say how much the show cost. The company plans to resume the display as the economy improves.

The Sky Concert has been an Indianapolis tradition for more than 25 years. Thousands of people watch the show from the banks of the White River near the city's downtown.
