One of the longest running and most prestigious in-season basketball tournaments in Indiana might need to be renamed the Cathedral Invitational. The Irish defeated Arlington 74-49 Monday night, the school's fourth straight boys' title.
Scott Hicks' team led by just four points at halftime, 30-26 but absolutely dominated the second half. Future Purdue Boilermaker Kelsey Barlow scored the first six points of the third quarter for Cathedral, starting the onslaught. The Irish put the Golden Knights away by scoring the first 20 points of the fourth quarter.
With the victory, Hicks now has six championships as Cathedral Head Coach, most in the illustrious history of the tournament. Arlington's Larry Nicks has five titles. Coach Nicks and the Knights get a chance at quick revenge Friday when they travel to Cathedral for a 7:30 start. Tune into Fox 59 Friday for highlights of that game and don't forget about Hoosier High School Sports Overtime Sunday morning at 11:30 AM for extended prep sports action.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
