Thief robs storage facility, holds up clerk at gunpoint

Around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, metro police were called to a reported armed robbery at a storage facility near 43rd and Lafayette Road.

Investigators say a man in his twenties entered the office at Public Storage, posing as a customer and asked for mattress bags. The clerk told police, when she turned her back to the suspect, he came around the counter and put a black, semi-automatic handgun to her head and demanded cash from the drawer.

The witness said the man told her he would shoot her if she did not cooperate. The man got away with approximately $89. Police believe he fled north from the scene. Investigators are collecting DNA and fingerprints from the scene.

The clerk was not injured during the incident. IMPD is asking anyone with information about the robbery or the whereabouts of the suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
