An entire generation remembers the Chrysler Cordoba not because they liked the car or ever drove it, but because of Ricardo Montalban.
Montalban died this week.
I will always remember him for his just-short-of-over-the-top performances as Kahn in the Star Trek series and the second Star Trek movie, "Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn." Only Montalban could keep up with William Shatner's talent for chewing scenery.
And Montalban used that ability to the fullest in his commercials for the Chrysler Cordoba. I don't think there ever was such a thing as "fine Corinthian leather," but Montalbahn made it sound real and -- comfortable.
