Solar-Panel Company Expanding Into Battle Creek

United Solar Ovonic will build a $220 million factory in Battle Creek that is to employ about 350 people within three years.
     
The company builds rooftop solar panels that gather sunlight and convert it into electricity.
     
The plant will be built in Fort Custer Industrial Park.  United Solar also has an option to build a second, similar plant there.
     
The company is a subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices Inc. and has about 870 full-time employees in Michigan.
     
United Solar's headquarters and two of its factories are in Auburn Hills. It also has two plants in Greenville and one in Tijuana, Mexico.
     
The company is receiving tax incentives to expand.
