ABC Plans Long Rollout

ABC has more new series than anyone else this fall, so it probably makes sense that the network will take a while to roll out its schedule.

Starting with the season premiere of newsmagazine "20/20" on Friday, Sept. 8, the network will roll out its lineup for the next month. And that doesn't even include the new drama "Day Break," which will take over for "Lost" in mid-November as part of ABC's plans to eliminate repeats of "Lost" this season.

Aside from "20/20," the only other show getting an early start date is "Dancing with the Stars," which will premiere Tuesday, Sept. 12 (its results show follows the next night). The premiere will run two hours, with the next few performance shows running either 90 or 120 minutes, partly as a way to boost new comedies "Help Me Help You" and "The Knights of Prosperity," which will eventually take up the 9 p.m. hour on Tuesdays

"Grey's Anatomy" begins life in its new Thursday home on Sept. 21, and "Desperate Housewives" will resume Sunday, Sept. 24. "Lost," meanwhile, will start its third season on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and is set to run for six uninterrupted weeks before "Day Break" premieres.
