Smoking Blunt Goes for 'Buck'

Hot off the success of "The Devil Wears Prada," Emily Blunt is close to signing on to play the female lead in "The Great Buck Howard."

Written and directed by Sean McGinly, "The Great Buck Howard" stars Colin Hanks and John Malkovich and is produced through Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's Playtone Prods. The elder Hanks also has a supporting role in the film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on the film began on Monday (July 31).

The plot revolves around a struggling magician (Malkovich), his optimistic assistant (Colin Hanks) and their attempts to restart his career. Blunt will play a publicist who has something to do with the magician's comeback performance.

The 23-year-old is having a breakout summer thanks to her scene-stealing work as the fittingly named Emily in "Prada." Earlier credits for the London-born actress include "My Summer of Love" and the miniseries "Empire."
