The actor and his actress girlfriend Courtney Ford are engaged, reports People.
"They are very happy," says publicist Kacey Spies.
Routh, 26, first met Ford, 28, on the job -- but not an acting job. The actor was working as a bartender at hip bowling alley Lucky Strike in Hollywood when Ford's brother had his wedding rehearsal dinner party there. Three years later, Routh proposed to Ford.
The couple plans to wed next fall and co-star in the short film, "Denial."
In the past, Routh referred to his girlfriend as his personal kryptonite. "She brings me to my knees," he said.
Although Routh has appeared on various TV shows including "General Hospital," "Gilmore Girls" and "One Life to Live," he was still a relative unknown when he was cast as the Man of Steel in Bryan Singer latest installment in the Superman mythology. He also has a small role in "Karla," in which Laura Prepon plays real-life killer Karla Homolka.
