Once again, Oprah has a monopoly on television book clubs.
CBS has yanked the summer reality dud "Tuesday Night Book Club" from its schedule after only two airings.
Despite its title, "Book Club" had precious little to do with literature (and, if some media reports are to be trusted, had precious little to do with reality). The primetime soap focused on a group of women from Arizona who got together to be catty about all variety of subjects (even books, for at least a minute).
In its first airing, "Book Club" barely found its way to 5 million viewers, and nearly a million of those viewers vanished for the second episode.
Officially, of course, "Book Club" in only on hiatus. Its Tuesday 10 p.m. ET time slot will be filled by episodes of "48 Hours Mystery" on June 27 and July 11, while CBS already had plans to telecast a Boston Pops concert and fireworks on July 4.
