"The Son of the Mask" failed without them, so Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz are looking to have a different kind of reunion.
According to media reports, the stars of "The Mask" (not to be confused with "Mask" stars Cher and Eric Stoltz) are joining forces on "A Little Game Without Consequences," a dramatic comedy (comedic drama? dramedy?) from writer Allan Loeb ("Things We Lost in the Fire") and director Gabriele Muccino ("The Pursuit of Happyness").
The plot apparently revolves around a married couple (Carrey and Diaz, it would seem) who decide to trick their friends into believing that they're divorcing. Funny joke. In any case, they're shocked to discover that their friends and family have been biting their tongues and never thought they were a good couple to begin with. Ha.
Apparently "A Little Game Without Consequences" is based on a French play by Jean Dell and Gerald Sibleyras, which in turn became the 2004 French film "Un petit jeu sans consequence."
The film is set up at Universal specialty house Focus Features with Alain Chabat, Stephanie Danan and Domenico Procacci producing.
Carrey has been absent from the big screen since last winter's "Fun with Dick and Jane." The "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" star will next be seen in the New Line thriller "The Number 23."
Diaz has "The Holiday" coming out this winter, as well as a vocal turn next summer in "Shrek the Third." She was most recently seen in last fall's "In Her Shoes."
