The romantic-tragic approach of novelist Nicholas Sparks has fueled such stories as "The Notebook" and "Dear John," and it services Zac Efron reasonably well in this drama about a Marine who believes his life was saved during Iraq combat by his locating a photo of a woman (Taylor Schilling).
When he returns to the States, he sets out to find her ... but once he does, her fears may prevent them from having future happiness together. Director Scott Hicks' ("Shine") cast also includes Blythe Danner as the woman's grandmother. DVD extras: three "making-of" documentaries. *** (PG-13: AS, V) (Also on Blu-ray and Movies on Demand)
