Now that "The O.C." is over, creator Josh Schwartz can turn his eyes to "Gossip Girl."
The CW pilot has cast Blake Lively and Leighton Meester as two of the leads in its drama pilot "Gossip Girl," based on Cecily von Ziegesar's popular books of the same name.
The hourlong drama centers on the titular anonymous blogger who gives the scoop about the rich and spoiled teenagers living in New York's Upper East Side. Her focus shifts among the many teens who live only for drugs, alcohol, glamour, partying, backstabbing and lots of sex.
Lively will play Serena who attends Constance Billard private school with her pal Blair (Meester). Their friendship is a rocky one, however, since they're often competing for the same things and the same guy, Blair's boyfriend Nate.
In other CW casting news, Tyler Labine ("Boston Legal," "Flyboys") has come aboard the drama pilot "Reaper," about a bounty hunter who works for the devil.
Lively is best known for her big-screen work in "Accepted" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." Meester has appeared on numerous TV shows including "Entourage," "24," "Veronica Mars," "Surface," "House" and "CSI: Miami.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
