"Sixth Sense" actor Haley Joel Osment is taking responsibility for the car crash in which his vehicle flipped over in July.
The actor pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence of alcohol and for possession of marijuana, reports TMZ.com. He will have to pay a $2,500 fine in penalties and was sentenced to three years' probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehab and three months of AA meetings.
Early July 20, the actor was driving his 1995 Saturn home when it collided with a brick pillar on Flintridge Avenue, just east of Chevy Chase Drive and flipped. Following the crash, he was apparently alert and able to talk when he was taken to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena to be treated for bruises, a broken rib and shoulder injury.
Osment lives with his family in La Canada Flintridge, about 14 miles from downtown Los Angeles
The young actor who received an Oscar nomination for "The Sixth Sense" also starred in "Pay It Forward," "Artificial Intelligence: AI" and "Secondhand Lions." He's also been busy with numerous voice over projects, including FOX's "Family Guy," "The Country Bears," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame II" and "The Jungle Book 2."
Osment's upcoming film is "Home of the Giants," in which he plays Robert "Gar" Garland, a high school journalist covering the basketball team on its way to the state championships. He's torn when he discovers that his hoopster pal has been asked to throw a big game. A release date has yet to be announced.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
