Long rumored for the project, Jet Li is in negotiations for a lead role in Universal's "Mummy 3."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Li would play the villainous titled character (3?) in the sequel, which will pass from original director Stephen Sommers to "Stealth" helmer Rob Cohen.
Scripted by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, "The Mummy 3" will begin in ancient China before skipping forward to the franchise's standard post-World War II setting. The trade paper informs us that one scene from the mysterious script is a battle featuring China's famed terra cotta warriors.
Sommers will stick around as a producer along with Bob Ducsay, Sean Daniel and James Jacks.
Li was most recently seen in the action flicks "Fearless," "Unleashed" and "Cradle 2 the Grave." He's currently in pre-production on a collaboration with Jackie Chan.
