The Sharpie Patrol has spoken. "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp is the best celebrity to approach for an autograph.
"Many stars become bad signers once fame and fortune hits, but not Depp," says Steve Cyrkin, editor and publisher of Autograph Collector magazine. "He's even signed autographs for crowds at the airport while carrying luggage."
It's the second year in a row Depp has topped the list of best signers.
Second place on the list goes to Oscar winner George Clooney, a man of the people who "will joke as he signs, and make fun of how he looks in photos he's handed to autograph."
Rounding out the Top 10 best signers are Matt Damon, Al Pacino, Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie, Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Jack Nicholson and Clint Eastwood.
Their less gracious counterparts are led by "Charlie's Angels" star Cameron Diaz.
"Cameron Diaz may be a talented actress, but she's persistently a terrible signer," says Cyrkin. "Instead of just turning down a person's autograph request, she'll lecture them about how dumb autographs are."
The other worst autographers include Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Tobey Maguire, Alan Alda, Halle Berry, Winona Ryder, Teri Hatcher, Joaquin Phoenix and Russell Crowe.
Depp, 42, will no doubt show off his generous signing ability this summer during the publicity tour for his latest film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which opens nationwide on July 7.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
