For his first film since winning the Oscar, Martin Scorsese has added another fellow Academy favorite.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Kingsley is joining a "Shutter Island" cast that already includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo.
Based on Dennis Lehane's 2004 novel, the '50s tale focuses on a pair of U.S. marshals who go to an island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the disappearance of a woman from a hospital for the criminally insane. Their work becomes more difficult when a hurricane leaves them trapped amongst the inmates.
The trade paper says Kingsley will play the hospital's chief physician, Dr. Cawley, in the Paramount production.
Shooting will begin in March from a script by Laeta Kalogridis.
Most recently seen in "You Kill Me" and "The Last Legion," Kingsley will appear opposite Mike Myers in "The Love Guru."
Kingsley won his Oscar for "Gandhi" and has also earned nominations for "Bugsy," "Sexy Beast" and "House of Sand and Fog."Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
