The main action on "Last Comic Standing" this season will, of course, take place on NBC. But those looking for a few extra laughs will be able to look online as well.
While "Last Comic" plays out on television, NBC.com will run an online competition featuring some of the stand-ups who didn't quite make it to the finals. The web-only contest will culminate in the winners getting some face time on the TV show.
The online competition -- Next-to-Last Comic Standing? -- will showcase 30 comics (five a week for six weeks), most of whom made it past the first round of auditions but didn't earn a spot in the final pool of contestants for the TV show. Users will vote on a winner each week.
In week seven, the six weekly winners will square off in a semifinal round. The top two vote-getters in that round will make the leap to the TV screen, performing in the penultimate episode of the TV show alongside the remaining "Last Comic" finalists.
The winner of both the online and on-air competitions will be revealed in the "Last Comic" finale.
"Last Comic Standing," hosted this year by former "Yes, Dear" star and veteran stand-up Anthony Clark, premieres Tuesday, May 30 on NBC.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
