'Soul Men' Lands 'Dreamgirl'

Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac have landed a "Dreamgirls" co-star for their musically themed comedy "Soul Men."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sharon Leal, star of two late-2007 hits, will play the female lead in the Dimension Films project, set to be directed by Malcolm D. Lee.

Mac and Jackson play two former soul group backup singers who take a road trip to the Apollo Theatre for a tribute concert for their group's deceased frontman. The trade paper says that Leal will play the daughter of Jackson's character, a young woman with musical gifts of her own.

In addition to "Dreamgirls" and a run on FOX's "Boston Public," Leal had lead roles in "Why Did I Get Married?" and "This Christmas," both recent sleeper hits.
