Celebrity Scoop: Matt Czuchry

If the rivalry between law-firm contenders on "The Good Wife" has seemed civil, Matt Czuchry says the gloves are coming off.

The former "Gilmore Girls" co-star has a big episode of the CBS law drama Tuesday, April 27, as his firm's former partner (returning guest star Kevin Conway) becomes the opponent in a case -- and tries to lure ambitious young attorney Cary Agos (Czuchry) to his side.

That's not an impossibility, since Cary has spent the show's season competing with Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) for a permanent job only one of them can land.

"We've seen from the very beginning that he's ambitious and willing to do what it takes to get to the top," Czuchry says of Cary. "I think this episode highlights that aspect of him a little bit more, his trying to win that spot (in the firm)."

Since the show is called "The Good Wife," and Margulies is the star, it might seem logical to deduce who ultimately will win the position. Czuchry maintains he never has minded the strong possibility of that outcome ... and what it might mean for his own tenure on the series.

"I did come into this knowing it could only be for a short period of time, but I always want to be associated with great projects and great people. This is an example of that, no matter how long it is.

"I've had a lot of different jobs over the course of 10 years," Czuchry adds. "You're always going from one to the next, and I've gotten used to the fact that you just do the best work you possibly can in the moment, then see where that takes you. That's what I can control: going to the set and doing my job, then letting the other pieces fall where they may."
