'Vegas'

What we said then: "There's a big, and possibly really interesting, story to be told in 'Vegas' about the rise of the gambling mecca and the men on both sides of the law who helped build it. We just hope that the smaller stories CBS is likely to want on a weekly basis don't get too much in the way."

What we say now: The marriage is still a bit uneasy, but the show has managed to keep up giving equal weight to both the law, as represented by Dennis Quaid, and the mob, in the form of Michael Chiklis, in 1960s Las Vegas. When the show is on its game, the cases of the week dovetail nicely with the larger story. We do really wish, though, that the pace would pick up some.
