Michelle Monaghan has snagged the lead role opposite Patrick Dempsey in the Columbia Pictures romantic comedy "Made of Honor."

Paul Weiland ("City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold," "Leonard Part 6") will direct from a script by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont.

Monaghan and Dempsey play platonic friends with different ideas about marriage -- she wants it, he doesn't. When she meets the supposed man of her dreams and asks her friend to serve as her "maid" of honor, he takes on the unorthodox role in the hopes of sabotaging the wedding.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production will begin in April, once Dempsey's "Grey's Anatomy" production ends.

Monaghan, best known from "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "Mission: Impossible III," will appear in "Gone, Baby, Gone" and the still-untitled Farrelly brothers film this fall.
