Frankie Muniz is breaking out of his "Malcolm in the Middle" shell, signing on for his second coming-of-age project in a month.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pint-sized star will play the lead in "My Sexiest Year" from writer-director Howard Himelstein. He'll be joined in the dramedy by a wacky cast that includes Harvey Keitel, Amber Valletta, Christopher McDonald, Frances Fisher and Haylie Duff. The movie will also feature the big screen acting debuts by singer Ryan Cabrera and lingerie model Karolina Kurkova.
The plot apparently involves a young man (Muniz) who has a romantic encounter with a supermodel (Valetta). Keitel plays the kid's father.
Production is, apparently, already under way.
It was just last month that Muniz announced that he was quitting the acting business to dedicate his time to becoming a racecar driver, planning to take at least two years off after the conclusion of his long-running FOX comedy. Instead, he just signed on to be part of the massive ensemble of the sketch movie "Parental Guidance Suggested."
Valletta, a model in her spare time, has been honing her acting craft in features including "Transporter 2" and "Hitch."
An Oscar nominee for "Bugsy," Keitel's credits include "Little Nicky," "Money Trouble" and, most recently, "Be Cool."Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
