Bill Murray's Encased in 'Ember'

Oscar nominee and "Meatballs" star Bill Murray will star in Walden Media's young adult film "City of Ember."

Based on the Jeanne DuPrau novel, the film is produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's Playtone, with Gil Kenan ("Monster House") set to direct.

In addition to Murray, the industry trades are reporting that Toby Jones ("Infamous") and Saoirse Ronan ("Atonement") will co-star.

Already slated for an Oct. 10, 2008 release by distributor 20th Century Fox, "City of Ember" will begin production this summer in Belfast.

Adapted by Caroline Thompson, the story is set in a realm where the sky is always dark and the only illumination comes from floodlights that shine 12 hours a day. When two tweens become curious about the world (and resources) outside of Ember, they run afoul of the town's controlling mayor (Murray).

Murray has most recently been seen in "The Lost City," "Broken Flowers" and "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou." He was also heard in a pair of "Garfield" films, but we'd rather not remember the "Rushmore" and "Lost in Translation" star for those.
