We've given up on "America's Next Top Model" producing, you know, an actual top model anytime soon. In fact, when Cycle 15 of the hit reality series premieres Wednesday, Sept. 8, on The CW, the chances of anyone discovering a legitimate supermodel this time around are, based on past history, exactly zero. Zip. Nil. As of right now, the cast of "Jersey Shore" has a better chance of earning their doctorates than one of these girls melting Anna Wintour's icy stare.
Regardless, we will all watch blissfully transfixed as Tyra Banks and her crew of judges (fashion editor Andre Leon Talley, photographer Nigel Barker, along with a new guest judge each week) and mentors (photo director Jay Manuel and runway trainer Miss J Alexander) take a ragtag bunch of semiattractive misfits and turn them into sexy reality TV models, going on cool fashion shoots around the globe and desperately hoping to win the $100,000 contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics and a spread in Vogue Italia. It's a wonderful three months of hair, makeup and drama ending with yet another winner whom we'll forget 15 minutes after she is announced.
Maybe it's our own fault for encouraging them by tuning in, but who can resist a constant stream of beautiful girls who we later discover include transsexuals, amputees, pathological liars, drama queens and probably a few porn stars and Russian assassins?\This season we're told the best they can muster is a lesbian and a girl with a waist so tiny that her large intestine is actually only a medium. Even so, there'll be plenty of excitement for the 14 model hopefuls with great locales such as Milan, Italy, and guest judges including legendary designer Diane von Furstenberg and photographer Patrick Demarchelier. And you can bet that the lesbian and the skinny girl are only the tip of the proverbial fashion iceberg if Tyra has anything to say about it. It's gonna be fierce. Maybe.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
