Disney is about to get some competition in the high school musical genre.

Nickelodeon will begin shooting the TV movie "Spectacular!" beginning in April, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The comedy centers on a preppy high school student (Tammin Sursok) who is one of the last good performers in the school's Spectacular choir after the best people graduated or defected to a rival squad. A too-cool rocker (Nolan Funk) joins the choir to try and win prize money, but finds a romantic connection with the preppy student.

"Spectacular!" is still awaiting an airdate, but Nickelodeon has an option on the stars for possible sequels. Since the Disney Channel's "High School Musical" has spawned one sequel with another on the way set for theatrical release, it's not a bad idea to be prepeared.

"She's All That" director Robert Iscove will direct the film, which will shoot in Vancouver.

Sursok, 24, is an Australian actress who performed with the Sydney Youth Musical Theatre and starred in the Aussie soap "Home and Away." She's probably best known in the U.S. as Colleen Carlton on "The Young and the Restless."

Funk, 21, has made guest appearances on "Smallville," "Supernatural" and "Aliens in America."
