While Drew Lachey wows the judges with his rumba on "Dancing with the Stars," brother Nick isn't having as much success with his partner.
The former 98 Degrees singer is seeking spousal support and various bling from his wife of three years, Jessica Simpson, report news sources. They've been living separately since December.
According to papers filed Friday, Feb. 17 in response to her Dec. 16 divorce filing, Lachey cites irreconcilable differences. He reserves the right to seek spousal support and asks the court to confirm "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects" are separate property.
There's also some issue about the official date of separation. She says Nov. 23rd, while he says it's much later, Dec. 13. The issue is important since they had no prenuptial agreement, and thus their income -- including a Dec. 5 concert for which Simpson bagged $850,000 -- earned before the split is considered community property and would be divided 50/50. A judge will make the call.
Lachey, 32, and Simpson, 25, met when she was promoting her debut album while touring with Lachey's boy band 98 Degrees. Although the two had their niche fans, they both shot to unforeseen fame after wedding in October 2002 when MTV released the hit reality show "Newlyweds."
Simpson's career quickly eclipsed Lachey's thanks to her pricelessly air-headed comments on "Newlyweds," her golf swing-inhibiting assets and her Daisy Dukes-wearing figure in "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie. Their three-year relationship has been marked by frequent estrangement, public bickering and rumors of infidelity. The day before Thanksgiving 2005, they announced they were splitting.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
